What Does Acupuncture Feel Like?
The needles that are used during your acupuncture treatment are extremely thin, sterile, disposable needles. You might feel a slight pin prick at more sensitive areas in the body when the needle is first inserted or no feeling at all in other areas. Once the needle is in the body patients can feel a heaviness in the area, warmth, pressure, numbness, tingling, or an electrical feeling down a point channel. All of these sensations mean that the acupuncture is working.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
The benefits of acupuncture are cumulative, so more then one treatment is necessary. For acute conditions you can expect to have 10 to 15 treatments, but you will usually begin to feel relief after just the first few. Chronic conditions may take longer to respond, depending on the type, severity, and duration of the condition. Preventative treatments and treatments for general well-being may also be scheduled on an as-needed basis.
